3 miles, 34 minutes
*sigh* I'm missing Phil a lot and, despite having friends, I feel kind of lonely...luckily, jogging gets my mind off things. so now, I'm sitting here watching embryology video clips (haha...it was hilarious to hear the entire class groan as the sperm penetrated the egg) and waiting for my hair to dry.

*sigh* so much to do and not enough time to do it all
2.7.09: 2.9 miles, 33 min
2.8.09: 1.3 miles, 14 min
I feel like I'm barely keeping my head out of the water every time I look at my schedule of things to do *sigh* so, it's been hard planning exercise into the day when there's a list of material I need to read (i have a pile of articles i still need to get around to reading!), a summer program I need to apply for, and lectures that i need to review. But i think it's normal to fall off the wagon every once in a while...i just need to remind myself that i can get back on =)

I'm jogging outside tomorrow!
2.8 mi, 32 minutes
Yay! The weather has been so beautiful lately that it seems wasteful not to enjoy it, so I'm planning on waking up early and jogging around campus tomorrow--it's about a 4 mile loop, but the latter half of the route is downhill, so it will likely be easier than jogging on the treadmill. I'm hoping to get good enough to run with Ms. Shelly Belly again (I love that she keeps me motivated--if it weren't for her last summer, I would still be catching my breath and stopping after 5 minutes).

I need to schedule my week better!
2.8 mi, 31 minutes
I've finally gotten down to jogging 3 times/week, for about half an hour each time, but I feel like I haven't been able to efficiently use some of my time. I'm planning on using this weekend to get things back on track!

hehe...exercising my brain
so...i haven't been exercising lately. But I guess you could say I've been trying to work out my brain instead, studying about diabetes, cholesterol levels, pancreatitis, and the interrelatedness of it all. okay, okay, I'll stop making excuses and go jogging today!

hmm...
1.7 mi, 20 minutes
I went this morning, and as I was jogging on an empty stomach, I thought about how my glycogen stores were probably depleted and I was using free fatty acids via beta-oxidation to obtain energy. hmm...i should consider loading up on carbs the night before if I plan on jogging in the morning next time.

can't get past 3 miles
3 mi, 35 minutes
My left side got a cramp half-way into my run (likely because I started off a little dehydrated), so my time was slower today. I can't seem to go past 3 miles though--running on a treadmill, in one stationary place seems too monotonous for anything past this 3 mile mark. I'll have to try running outside if the weather looks good tomorrow =)

flushed red face
I don't seem to get red anywhere else when I run--just on my face. *sigh* too many blood vessels going to my head, I'm afraid.

morning jog on an empty stomach
I used to go jogging in the morning before breakfast with Shelly all the time, but it's been awhile since I got up early to go...
And so, I'm afraid I couldn't get the strength or willpower to jog for very long:
jogging 1 mi, 12 minutes *sigh* but i'll try not to be too hard on my body; it needs recovery.
elliptical, 30 minutes

not looking
jogging doesn't seem quite as hard when i'm not counting down the seconds! So, i covered up the timer this time and kept going until it hurt too much:
2.8 miles, 33 minutes

jogging, jogging...
Finally got back to running in a loooong time:
2.6 miles, 32 minutes (hopefully, it will progressively get better!)
then I spent another 1/2 an hour stretching and cooling down on the elliptical.

Yummy blueberry!
So, here's what I had today:
Breakfast: HBO cereal
Lunch: pb&j sandwich with blueberry spread...mmm--i realized that i used to get hungry soon after because i wasn't putting enough peanut butter on the sandwich
Snack: Got hungry right before anatomy again, and I later had some sushi and half a pecan pie slice
Dinner: tofu at BCD
Unfortunately, no jogging today either--but I will start tomorrow!

Flexibility
Hmm...looks like I won't be exercising on Saturday bc of a dinner, but I'll just change that to Sunday at 1

Staying Healthy and Happy!
Living on my own and trying to stay on top of studying and other needs have made eating healthy and exercising less of a priority lately. But as I learn and see some of the congenital and acquired health problems that many people have, I realize how much I've taken my body for granted and have begun to appreciate my body much more. Seeing problems like hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol makes me worried about the future diseases that lurk around the corner waiting for me. And in some ways, I would say that a small amount of healthy fear may help me achieve some goals I've mentally made in the past but have not yet achieved. As the start to the new year, I would like to work on exercising and eating better! I know the biggest obstacle in the past has been to find time to go jogging or eating a complete breakfast, but I am going to work on scheduling in time and learn to become more productive with the time I have. I'd like to use this blog as a way to motivate myself to follow through with my goals and to encourage others to do the same.
Here's my starting point (January 15, 2009):
Exercising: 1-2/week, 45 minutes
Jogging: 5.4 mph, 2-3 miles (but sometimes I stop to catch my breath for 2 minutes)
Breakfast: cereal, usually honey bunches of oats
Lunch: granola bar, an apple or orange, cookies, carrots, whatever's they happen to be giving away at the lunch seminars
Dinner: spaghetti, eggrolls, green beans, brocolli, rice, fish, chicken, eggs
Snacks: cookies (can't live without them!), fruit snacks
Here are some goals I'd like to reach by July 1, 2009:
Exercising: at least 3/week, consistently (except finals week?)
Jogging: 6 mph, 5 miles
Breakfast: waking up 30 minutes earlier to give myself enough time to eat and pack lunch; I'm pretty happy with eating cereal.
Lunch: something with more protein and fiber
Dinner: cooking on weekends and freezing it away for the weekdays, eating less at night but snacking more throughout the day to keep my energy up.
Snacks: fruit chewies, carrots, apples, oranges, pears, etc.
For this coming week, here are my plans:
Exercising: F (1/16)-8pm, Sat-1pm, Mon-8:30 am, Wed-8pm, Sat (1/24)
Eating: gotta go buy more jelly, fruit and veggies, pomegranate!, salmon, yogurt, granola, try cous cous
